Glamorgan Cricket confirmed on Friday that Herschelle Gibbs, the 34 year-old South African batsman, will be joining the Welsh county for the Twenty20 competition this summer.

Gibbs, who has played in 90 Tests and 227 One-Day Internationals, was given clearance today by Cricket South Africa to play for Glamorgan in the Twenty20 competition from June 11th.

Matthew Maynard, Glamorgan's Cricket Manager said "I`m absolutely delighted that Herschelle will be joining us for our Twenty20 Cup games. After discussions with Jason Gillespie, it was always our intention to sign a world-class batsman for this competition, and with so much Championship cricket at the back end of the season, the signing of Herschelle means that Jason will be able to return to action in the other competitions having had a short break."

"Herschelle has an outstanding track record, especially in the shorter form of the game, and I`m sure that our supporters will be eager to see in action for Glamorgan a man who entered the record books in the 2007 World Cup by hitting six sixes in an over. He will certainly compliment the experience and talent which Jason will offer to us in other competitions."
